SandDraw

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

SandDraw is built local-first. It is a drawing and painting app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac with no account to create, no advertising, and no tracking. Your boards belong to you: they are files stored on your device and, if you use iCloud Drive, in your own private iCloud. There is no SandDraw server, and we never receive a copy of your data. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and the choices you have.

In short: we do not collect your data, because there is nothing for us to collect it with. The app makes no network requests of its own — all drawing, painting, and exporting happens on your device.

1. Information the app stores

Everything below is created by you while using the app and is stored only on your device (and in your private iCloud Drive, if enabled). The app never asks for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or location, and it does not collect any device identifiers.

  • Your boards: .sanddraw document packages containing the shapes, connectors, text, freehand strokes, and paint layers you draw, plus a thumbnail preview and any images embedded in the document's assets.
  • Hyperlinks you attach: elements can carry a link you add yourself; it is stored inside the board like any other property.
  • Your component library: selections you save for reuse across boards.
  • Board metadata: names, favorites, recents, and the grid style you choose per board.
  • App preferences: small settings such as window and view state.

2. Where your data is stored

  • Your boards are ordinary files (.sanddraw packages) stored locally on your device, with autosave.
  • If your device is signed in to iCloud and iCloud Drive is enabled, your boards and component library sync to your own iCloud Drive under your Apple Account. This storage is only accessible to you — not to us or anyone else — and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • SandDraw does not operate any backend server and never receives a copy of your data.
  • Because boards are plain files, you can copy, back up, or move them yourself at any time — including out of the app entirely.
  • There are no accounts, so your data is not linked to any online identity beyond your own iCloud.

3. What we do not collect

  • No analytics or usage tracking of any kind.
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No third-party SDKs — the app is built entirely on Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, Metal, PencilKit).
  • No accounts, sign-ins, or personal identifiers.
  • No crash reports or diagnostics sent to us. (You can share standard diagnostics with Apple through system settings; that is governed by Apple's privacy policy.)
  • The app makes no network requests of its own. The sandboxed Mac app does not even hold the network permission — it is technically incapable of contacting a server.

4. Third-party services

SandDraw talks to no external services. The only network activity involved is iCloud Drive sync, which is performed by Apple's system software under your iCloud settings and Apple's Privacy Policy — not by the app itself.

  • Everything — drawing, painting, editing, searching your canvas, and exporting — works fully offline.
  • If you open a hyperlink you attached to an element, it opens in your browser like any link you click yourself.

5. Device permissions

  • Files: when you open or save a board or an export outside the app's own folder, the app uses the standard system file picker and can read or write only the files you choose.
  • Apple Pencil: on iPad, Pencil input is processed live on your device to draw ink. Nothing about your strokes is transmitted anywhere.
  • The app requests no camera, microphone, location, contacts, or notification access.

6. Exports and sharing you initiate

You can export a board — or just a selection — as a PNG, PDF, or SVG file. These files are rendered entirely on your device and saved or handed to the standard share sheet. Nothing is shared unless you choose to share it, and where it goes is entirely up to you.

7. Data retention and deletion

Because your boards are files on your device and in your private iCloud Drive, you are always in control of them.

  • You can delete, rename, or duplicate boards inside the app at any time, and delete saved components from your library.
  • Deleting the app removes its local data from your device.
  • Boards synced to iCloud Drive can be deleted in the app or managed like any other iCloud Drive files — in the Files app or your device's iCloud settings.

8. Children's privacy

SandDraw does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. The app has no accounts, no social features, and no advertising.

9. Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices ever change, this policy will be updated here with a revised "Last updated" date. Because the app has no server and no accounts, any future change could never retroactively affect data that has always stayed on your device.
